The game is a sequel to The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II game and is part of The Legend of Heroes gaming franchise. In here you will be playing as Rean Schwarzer, an experienced military professor, and his students. 

What is The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III about?

The game begins after the big ‘Northern War’ that ended with North Ambria getting annexed in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II. In the current third game, one-and-a-half years have passed. The main job in the game is to explore various topics. So here you will be dealing with the origins of the mysterious Rean.  Apart from this, you will also be finding out what is going on with the others since the last game. The game features appearances from characters Agate and Tita (Trails series characters) and Randy and Tito (Ao no Kiseki characters). If you want to play this game, it’s advised that you catch up on at least the storyline of the previous two games. 

Gameplay

In the game, you will be teaching the next class VII as Rean Schwarzer. In the new class, there are multiple characters like Kurt Vander, Juma Crawford, Ash Carbide, Altina Orion, and more. All these characters have different backgrounds and different motivations.  After training the class, you will have to solve various conflicts in Erebonia. Also during a field exercise taking place in Heimdallr, Ash gets possessed and tries to kill the emperor. This creates a snowball effect that results in an almost war. Of course, that’s not all. But the gameplay shines in these sections.  You will be playing in a traditional turn-based JRPG model which is like the previous two installments in the game. There is a focus on speeding up the battles as well. Know that the transitioning into the battle scenes happen more smoothly as well. The game makes use of the Brave Order battle system that allows players to buff their team without even expending one turn.

The features of this game make it stand out from the rest and this creates a more enjoyable experience. These features are: 

Break system

In here players will be able to take down the enemy’s defense and deal greater damage to them. Know that enemies come with a parameter that defines their breakability. This shows up during battles as Break Gauge. If this gauge gets depleted, then enemies can get defeated easily. 

Brave Order

We talked a little about Brave Oder in the gameplay section, but let’s talk about it a little bit more here. In this feature, you will be able to carry out linked attacks using 2 or even characters. Using this you will get to fulfill party-wide orders carefully for a set number of turns or counts. 

Juna Crawford

We mentioned Juna Crawford as a student of Rean above. But she is not just a student. Rena is a powerful party member too. She is the only one who can change styles. This means that she can change between the gunner more or the striker mode.  Know that when she is in her striker mode, then she makes use of her gunbreakers like batons and takes out enemies. However, note that this is only a closed ranged attack. When she switches over to the Gunner mode, the situation is different since her stats get lowered. But she gains the ability to target multiple opponents at a distance. 

Enhanced

This can only be carried out by high-ranking monsters and Jaegars. In here all the attacks are upgraded to critical and there’s reduced damage.  The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is a game that lives up to all the hype.
